Chemours is seeking an Electrical and Instrument Technician to join our growing Maintenance and Reliability team! This position will report directly to the site Maintenance First Line Supervisor at our Chambers Works site in Deepwater, NJ .

The primary responsibility of this role is to support the site’s instrumentation and electrical needs including the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the plant equipment in a safe, timely, and craftsman-like manner.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Following safe work practices as set forth by company standards, OSHA, NFPA, and other codes in electrically classified areas, including Lock, Tag, Clear and Try procedure and other safe work procedures before beginning work on equipment and systems.

  • Selecting and wearing proper personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel toed shoes, voltage rated gloves, fall protection equipment, respiratory equipment, etc.) to prevent personal injury.

  • Inspecting equipment and repairing/modifying equipment using hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, wire strippers, and lug crimpers.

  • Preventative Maintenance, testing, installing, repairing, and troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic process instrumentation equipment such as: temperature, pressure, flow, level and pH transmitters and automated valves, rebuilding automated control valves, regulators, relief valves etc.

  • Performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting process control computer systems, including but not limited to DCS, PLCs, Control Logix, and RSLogix using portable computers

  • Troubleshooting AC or DC variable speed drives and motors, line speed control systems, motor control centers and power distribution panels

  • Maintaining and updating calibration records, job procedures, and manuals while performing ISO calibration on pressure, temperature, and pH controllers, etc. Calibrating gauges, controllers, transmitters, and gauge system as required; coordinating calibration of test equipment.

  • Providing assistance/working with Mechanical Technicians, Operations, Reliability Engineers, Management, etc. as needed.

The following is required for this role:

  • High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent with basic computer skills – general knowledge of e-mail and Microsoft Office Suite

  • 3-5 years of E & I experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge of basic electricity, PLC and instrumentation functionality, electrical safety and National Electric Code, and ability to read schematics, use test equipment and hand tools.

  • Must be able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as a Level A suit, full face respirator (no facial hair), SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus), arc flash PPE, safety glasses, steel toes, Tyvek, hearing protection and gloves

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently without accommodation

  • Willing and able to work over-time, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

The following is preferred for this role:

  • Associate’s Degree in Instrumentation or Engineering Technology

  • E&I experience in military settings or apprenticeship program completion.

  • Previous Process Safety Management knowledge / experience

  • Experience with SAP or equivalent Manufacturing Operations software.

  • Experience with job safety analysis and lock out procedures.

  • Knowledge and experience reading P&ID’s
