Chemours is seeking a Principal Investigator – Elemental Analysis to join our growing Chemours Titanium Technologies Analytical team! This position will report directly to the Elemental Analysis Team Leader at our Newark, DE location.

The Chemours Titanium Technologies organization is seeking to engage an Analytical Scientist to support collaborative research projects and business-critical product/process investigations at the Chemours Discovery Hub in Newark, DE. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a variety of scientific efforts on behalf of multiple business units. There will be an expectation to have – or develop – expertise in sample preparation and elemental analysis by ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and XRF, including direct operation of all analytical instrumentation, maintenance, and laboratory safety management. The successful candidate will be expected to develop quickly into a subject matter expert in elemental analysis and make strong and increasing technical contributions to the corporation.

The Chemours Discovery Hub is located on the University of Delaware STAR Campus in Newark, DE. This state-of-the-art facility was completed in 2019 and fully opened for science in 2020. The 350 scientists, engineers, and technicians at the site work in 130 laboratories that provide 320,000 square feet of space for research and development, technical service, and manufacturing support of Chemours businesses. The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Become the subject matter expert capable of executing all routine analysis techniques including ICP-OES, ICP-MS and XRF

  • Become the subject matter expert capable of executing all routine sample preparation techniques including microwave digestions with hydrofluoric acid and other techniques

  • Develop and document new methods to support new sample requirements or improve existing sample analysis

  • Provide hands on instruction on new methods to other team members

  • Safely operate and maintain laboratory equipment

  • Effectively communicate results to the Chemours R&D community

  • Work independently and with cross-functional teams

  • Independently formulate work plans and manage/prioritize daily workflow for the laboratory

The following is required for this role:

  • PhD in Chemistry or MS/BS with relevant experience (degrees in closely-related fields of study will be considered)

  • Hands on experience with some elemental analysis techniques (ICP-OES, ICP-MS, or XRF preferred)

  • Experience with general laboratory manipulations, including analytical sample preparation

  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish tasks independently with minimal guidance/supervision

  • Demonstrated ability to meet challenging deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Commitment to safe operations at all times

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

The following is preferred for this role:

  • Experience with a wide range of elemental analysis techniques including ICP-OES, ICP-MS and XRF

  • Experience in developing and validating new analytical techniques

  • Experience in sample preparation including microwave digestions and inhomogeneous samples

  • Experience working in and coordinating research in a team environment

Pay Range (in local currency):

$105,280.00 - $164,500.00

Annual Bonus Target:
