Chemours Senior Environmental EHS Engineer in Pascagoula, Mississippi

The Chemours Senior Environmental EHS Engineer will provide leadership, technical support, policy, program management and oversight, and strategy development for site environmental programs, as well as, improvement initiatives. Duties will include implementing systems to operate in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations and permit conditions, maintaining all environmental operating plans and records, and championing best practices to improve unit performance. This position partners with the site’s leadership team to establish and model behavior that leads to excellent site environmental performance. This position reports to the Site Manager and has an EHS Technician direct report.

  • The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:*

  • Management of all site environmental programs including, but not limited to, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, and SARA/CERCLA

  • Oversees preparation, maintenance, and submission all records, reports, notifications and plans required by the company and regulatory agencies including, but not limited to, Title V and Title III reporting, MACT, SARA Tier 2 and Form R reporting, NESHAP, RMP, NPDES and POTW discharge monitoring reports, stormwater, groundwater, RCRA, remediation, wastewater reports, etc.

  • Develop and implement environmental strategies and action plans, to ensure corporate sustainable development

  • Maintain strong working relationships with regulatory agencies

  • Lead permitting activities

  • Analyze data and evaluate current performance and trends

  • Plan and lead self-assessments to identify opportunities to improve performance

  • Develop and own an evergreen point of view of the site’s environmental risks, priorities, and key issues. Develop and implement improvement plans to advance the site’s environmental excellence

  • Ensure systems (tools/methods) to assess facility compliance status are implemented, tracked, and modified as necessary

  • Proactively increase knowledge of current and emerging federal, state, and local environmental regulatory requirements affecting site operations

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of site processes and how they affect compliance

  • Lead effective environmental incident investigations and root cause analyses

  • Develop corrective and preventative actions

  • Works closely with the Plant Manager to effectively execute EH&S initiatives and provide counsel, as required, ensuring compliance with all standards and regulations

  • Acts as the site representative for interactions with federal, state and local regulatory agencies, and facilitate response to agency requests or notifications.

  • Assists emergency/crisis and spill response activities and notifications

  • Routine field auditing and visibility for interactions with employees.

  • Drives and maintains continuous improvements of the site EHS managing processes and procedures.

  • Participates, or ensures representation, in relevant site incident investigations to address/ determine root causes, key factors, and corrective actions.

  • Serves as an effective liaison with key community groups and Responsible Care Community Advisory Panel

  • Coordinates the schedule and execution of corporate second party environmental audits at the site.

  • Interfaces routinely and networks with other site, business, and corporate EHS resources to share and leverage information as appropriate.

  • Manages the budget for the Site’s environmental cost centers.

  • Participate regularly in site 1st Party Auditing

  • Learn and have oversight of EHS related compliance software.

  • Provide oversight and development for site resources to help ensure technical and functional skills within the manufacturing and service groups are effective for regulatory compliance.

In order to be qualified for this role, you /must possess/ the following:

  • B.S. Degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related engineering or physical science discipline is required

  • At least 5 years of environmental leadership experience in an operations/ manufacturing environment is required

  • Demonstrated EHS functional/technical expertise with local, state and federal environmental regulations

  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently balance multiple priorities with the proper sense of urgency

  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and organizational skills to independently complete tasks and work well in a team environment

  • Exhibit sound decision making

  • Demonstrated written and oral skills - presents information and ideas in an articulate and organized way

  • Ability to anticipate, plan, develop, implement, audit, and improve systems and processes in the Environmental competency

  • Ability to collaborate and network with site, business and corporate resources

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, self-starter who can work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision.

  • The successful candidate will be one who can deal with fast changing and sometimes conflicting priorities and who possesses strong organization and planning skills. Additionally, by necessity, the successful candidate will be one who has strong interpersonal and mentoring skills and can work well in a team environment

  • Ability to collaborate and network with site, business and corporate resources

  • Experience with Process Safety Management in a High Hazard environment is preferred
